Project IV

For this project my goal was to do something outside of my comfort zone. I am working on an original composition which features an acoustic guitar as the main instrument, like this track. So I mixed this song to get practice working with acoustic guitars. The storytelling component and emotion were big factors for me as well. I wanted to mi a track that felt similar to my track but also was different enough to challenge me and grow my skill set.

Variation 1

For the first variation, I wanted to add ambience to the recording. The raw files have a very live feel to them. It sounds as if this could be a live performance. So I wanted to add some environmental noise to supplement this vibe I was getting. The main sounds I added were campfire noise throughout and audience sounds  before the first verse.

Variation 2

For the second variation, I wanted to add a bass harmony to see if that would add more body to the harmonies. I recorded myself singing on a Shure SM57. to try to capture the live recording feel that I liked from the raw tracks. I then put the same processing that's on the background vocals on my own.

Variation 3

For this last variation, I wanted to add some percussion. The original track doesn't have any percussion that isn't a tambourine, which doesn't even have its own track. So I added a half-time groove with Boom from Pro Tools. To me this mkes the last chorus standout more and makes it much bigger.
